About Us

Its important to understand Our Lady of Fatima's story, the people that sustain us, our location, the Church's inspiration, and our history!

Our Inspiration

Our Lady Of Fatima Appiration.png

The parish honors the 1917 apparitions in Fatima, Portugal, a divine call for prayer, penance, and conversion amidst the global turmoil of World War I, delivered through three shepherd children (Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco) who reported visits from the Virgin Mary and an Angel of Peace, urging sacrifices for world peace and the conversion of sinners. The message emphasized praying the Rosary and asked for the consecration of Russia, promising a miracle for belief, which occurred as the "Miracle of the Sun".

Our People

Our Lady Of Fatima is a Catholic Church non-profit organization and community centered on the Eucharist, committed to living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ through prayer, service, and fellowship. It invites individuals to feel at home, connect with its ministries, and become an active part of the faith family while supporting one another on their spiritual journeys.

Our History

Early Days: (1940s)

  • Origins: Began as a mission of St. Mary's in Norwalk; during World War II gas rationing, Masses were held at the American Legion Hall in Wilton Center for local Catholics.

  • Founding: A Site Purchase Committee formed, successfully fundraising to buy land for Wilton's own church, with each family contributing $19.83.

Establishment & Growth (1950s-1980s)

  • Parish & Church: Established in 1942 with 60 families, the church construction finished in 1953 and was named Our Lady of Fatima, dedicated on October 13, 1953 (the date of the final Fatima apparition).

  • Diocesan Significance: It was among the first parishes established in the new Diocese of Bridgeport.

  • Facilities: The rectory was built in 1955, and a school was added in 1962.

  • Expansion: The parish grew, adding offices and a conference room in 1992.

Modernization & Ministry (1990s-Present)

  • Major Renovation: The church and Parish Center were expanded and renovated, dedicated on November 1, 1995, featuring new Marian-themed stained glass.

  • Leadership & Faith: The parish saw significant growth under pastors like Father Palmer (1977-2013) and continued its focus on faith, ministries (youth, elderly, disabled), and community outreach, notes the Connecticut Post.

  • School Model: In 2019, the school transitioned to a diocesan-supported academy model, empowering local decision-making with multi-age classrooms. Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy in Wilton, CT, officially shut down in the summer of 2022, with the Diocese of Bridgeport announcing the closure on June 29, 2022
